The Midas & Carlin Trends Nevada, USA
Carlin Queen Project
Quick View:

Location:
The Carlin Queen Gold-Silver Property is located within the Ivanhoe Mining District in western Elko County, Nevada. The property is within a two-hour drive of two full-service mining towns, Elko and Winnemucca, and is accessed via paved roads and graded gravel roads.

Water for exploration activities is available at the various springs on the property or from Ivanhoe Creek, 2.5 km north of the property. Electricity is available at Midas (20 km northwest) and at the Hollister Mine, 6 km to the south.

Geology:
The majority of the rocks in the Property area consists of Tertiary volcanic flows, domes, pyroclastic materials, and related reworked sediments that unconformably overlie a basement composed of the Ordovician Vinini Formation.
The Vinini Formation is the host for most of the high-grade veins at Hecla Mining’s Hollister Mine. Rhyolitic ash and tuff rocks at Carlin Queen host an old mercury mine, and 500 tons of bentonite was extracted from the property in 1980.
Structure:
Two NNW-trending strongly uplifted horst fault blocks brought the Vinini Formation close to the surface. The horst-bounding faults are believed to have acted as feeder fluid conduits for silver, gold, and tungsten mineralization.

Alteration:
Argillic alteration has been encountered at the surface and in the drilling at Carlin Queen, haloed by propylitic alteration similar to that observed at the Silver Cloud Deposit, which also hosted a historic mercury mine.

Historic Exploration:
Geophysical surveys consisting of ground magnetics, gravity and CSAMT were conducted in 2004 and 2012, sporadic geochemical sampling has been completed identifying anomalous gold and silver mineralization.

The surface sampled returned gold values to 13 ppb, silver to 0.87 ppm, arsenic to 39.5 ppm and mercury to 327 ppm, similar levels to the subtle features found above high-grade vein systems in the Ivanhoe and Midas districts.

Around 13 drill holes have been completed at Carlin Queen. The most recent program of the historic drilling identified significant intercepts of silver mineralization hosted exclusively within the Ordovician Vinini unit underlying the volcanics. Results include:

• 6.09 m @ 60.2g Ag from 114.6 m (IC-07-10)
• 3.04 m @ 262.0g Ag. From 129.9 m (IC-07-10)
• 3.05 m @107 Ag from 181.7 m (IC-07-12)

Despite these positive results from a very limited drill program no follow up drilling has been completed at the property since 2007.
